Bryan Nesbitt promoted: a designer becomes boss Cadillac

Who runs Cadillac is not in itself very important. However, the appointment of Brian Nesbitt at the head of Cadillac indicates a big change in mentality and we glimpse the chosen path to recovery marks New GM recently released its placement under Chapter 11.

The reorganization of the GM group has experienced an unexpected event in recent weeks. While for the most senior leaders of the era Wagoner had been invited to go elsewhere, we saw a surprising return, that of Bob Lutz. More than a return is not a departure which we attended.

The great guru, darling of journalists, whose car lived enough to fill an encyclopedia to 77 years and had announced his retirement at the end of the year in the midst of crisis. As soon as the New GM plan was accepted, that the man returned to the furnace to manage the product and communication as he knows so well done. More retirement on the horizon, one starts as 14.

Bob Lutz has appointed Bryan Nesbitt to head Cadillac. The important element in this announcement is that Bryan Nesbitt arrives not spheres financial group but since the design was Vice President of Design for GM North America. He was previously stationed at Opel where he took over from Mark Smith and party arrived at Ford directly from Chrysler where he notably designed the PT Cruiser.

A man from the design that takes the head of a brand as important is a first and it shows the new path chosen by the new management team focused on design and marketing. In this “revolutionary movement”, I gladly bet on a fairly rapid replacement of Ed Welburn, head of GM design unless it agrees to (continue to be?) The executor of decisions Lutz. We’ll see.
